It has been estimated that as many as one out of every three gays and lesbians -- that's over eight million of us -- struggle with the disease of chemical dependency every day.

Under the tremendous pressure of guilt, hate, and fear of discovery all around us, many lesbians and gays turn to alcohol or drugs in an attempt to escape from the strain of trying to balance being gay and living in a hostile world. I know - I was there.
